Why we love the country . . .

"There's an adventure around every corner"

Recently I visited a farm in the Annapolis Valley that I was in the process of listing. It's tucked under the North Mountain with forest working its way upwards. It's steep. On day 2 of visiting the farm, I wanted to walk the 75 acres. Don, the owner said, "we'll take the tractor" and he swung open the door to the barn and there she was . . . a pretty little 1955 Ford. "Hop on" said Don, "step on that little flat bar on the back and hold on. Watch out for the PTO if it spins. It may be jerky as I have to stop to shift gears." Out of the barn and up the east side along the old orchard we cruised, then past the big field to the edge of the forest. A gear shift and down a steep decline, over the brook. Then another gear shift, then up the mountain. Straight up. Don navigated that old Ford like a tailor threading a needle. I was holding on like gum to a shoe. Don's been making that run for 35 years. A routine drive for him. My adventure for the day.
