Tucked away on a quiet side road, 12 minutes from Bridgewater on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, is this amazing 250 acre paradise. Known as “Painted Sky” because of its brilliant sunsets, new owners will surely spend a lot of time in the evening watching horses and deer as the sun goes down. The house dates back to the mid 1800s but has been totally upgraded, renovated and restored over the past 7 years. It features over 3,400 square feet of living space spread over two floors. Perched on top of a hill, the house is an impressive sight with its traditional Nova Scotia features - steeply pitched roof, lots of trim details and a bold red colour. It’s equally impressive inside. There’s a wonderful side entry that opens into the centre of the house and a nice open foyer with living spaces on either side. Straight ahead is an oversized closet and a well appointed bathroom. To the right is a spacious sitting area with one of the two “Kachelofen” woodburning stoves. This cozy space opens to a country kitchen with center island and custom built cabinetry. Out in front of these rooms is the diningroom. It measures 14 x 30 and can accommodate any size table with plenty of room left over for additional seating. At the other end of the house is a corner library, the family room with an original brick wood burning fireplace and a very sunny livingroom with vaulted ceiling to the peak and the second “Kachelofen” stove. Off the livingroom is a comfortable home office area. And, at the far end is the sunroom which overlooks the back fields and is floor to ceiling glass on 3 walls. This well used room opens to a screen room. The second floor has a large open foyer with built-in bookcase, three guest bedrooms and a large master bedroom. The master bedroom consists of two large adjoining rooms with closets. The first room opens to a small deck and serves as a sitting/dressing room, while the second room can comfortably handle a large bed. Windows open to a balcony area that looks down into the livingroom. You’ll love the bathroom. It’s huge with lots of natural light and high-end features. It has two sinks, a separate tub and a large walk-in shower. The floors and walls are covered with ceramic, and the cabinetry details are well above average. The main part of the house sits on a solid stone foundation. In recent years this house was virtually gutted and rebuilt. A new addition was added to the rear including the sunroom. The house has been fully insulated, rewired, replumbed, and all the new interior trims complement the original character. All the doors are custom made wooden doors. All the floors are wood or ceramic. The roof was reshingled in 2008 and the exterior paint on the shingled side walls are in very nice shape. The house has excellent systems including electric heating throughout, two Kachelofen stoves which can heat the house, fireplace, drilled well and septic system. This home has the character of an 1800s home. Wide wood floors. Wide trims and moldings. Interesting nooks and crannies. Cozy spaces. Built-ins. And it has the features most of us love in a modern country home, including a great kitchen, big principal rooms, efficient systems, fireplaces, lots of windows and space for everything. Across from the house is a big barn. A previous owner loved this barn and undertook the challenge to replace timbers, upgrade the stone foundation and restore the framing. It’s solid. It’s beautiful. The present owners converted the main floor to accommodate 6 box stalls, a tack-up area, storage and a large heated tack room. There’s a loft for hay and the basement level is above grade on one side making it easily accessible. There’s a neat woodhouse to hold lots of firewood. Next to the big barn is another barn. It has a three bay garage, with workshop area, a full length machinery storage/equipment area and a great apartment overhead. This hide-away is ideal for guests or in-laws. It has a full bath, good sized bedroom and huge livingroom with a small kitchen on one side. It has a rustic feel with lots of natural wood. The 250 acres consists of open fields, rolling pasture, hayland, meadow and forest. About 50 acres is well fenced for horses and there’s a 60 x 120 outdoor arena. The forest is amazing with trails and roadways and great mix of softwood and hardwood. There’s a year-round brook and 5 ponds. Surrounding the ponds is meadowland. There are resident owls and deer and lots of birds. This is truly a paradise property, ideal for horses, country inn, sheep and other livestock.
