Twenty years ago I first noticed this special property located on the South Shore. I was immediately attracted to the private setting situated on the quiet road just off the paved road close to Lockeport and Shelburne. The red farmhouse was positioned on a gentle knoll, way back off the road surrounded by old growth forest, pasture, stone walls and running to the ocean. When I had the opportunity to visit the property my curb-side expectations were exceeded.

The traditional three level classic "Saltbox" home dates back to 1826. It was built by Mr. McPherson, a shipwright, whose daughter married Hugh McKay, the father of the famed Donald McKay, who built the Nova Scotia Clipper ships. McPherson too was a boat builder, building wooden sailing ships along this east side of Jordan Bay.

The house has been gutted, rebuilt, renovated and remodeled keeping the original circa 1826 architectural details, floors and trims while meticulously finishing the interior and exterior to a very high standard. It has been re-wired, plumbing replaced, new windows and doors, insulated, exterior sidewalls reshingled and roof shingles replaced. In the past 5 years, the lower and upper levels have been completed.

The main level includes a large original keeping room (entry) with fireplace, a well proportioned kitchen, spacious diningroom and sunny livingroom with fireplace. The top floor includes a 12.5 x 9.5 foot bedroom plus the owner's suite. This 14 x 20 foot room is vaulted to the peak, with wooden ceiling, a view to the water and the ensuite bathroom with shower and cast iron tub. The lower level, once the "summer kitchen" opens to the gardens in behind. It has been tastefully finished and now includes two more bedrooms, utility room, entry foyer, laundry room and a custom built sauna. The original summer kitchen fireplace with its bread oven is still in place. Most floors are original plank wood flooring.

Outbuildings include a modern two level garage, 30 x 24 feet, with a fantastic guest suite above. This hide-away has its own bathroom with shower, perfect for guests, in-laws, or your studio space. There is also a small horse barn, chicken coop, woodshed and historic outdoor privy. There is also a 80 x 40 foot covered structure currently used for boat building . . . the tradition lives on. This large facility is also perfect for many other uses including sheep, indoor tennis court, gardening, dining under cover and other creative uses.

The property includes approximately 31 acres with lots of road frontage and 800+ feet on the saltwater of Jordan Bay. About 18 acres is cleared and features 6 fenced pastures. All the pastures are separated with old rock walls. Three pastures have been reseeded this Spring with Timothy and Fescue grass. The remaining land is a managed forest.

The shoreline is rocky and being inland, it is nicely protected. Ideal for kayaks and boating. There's a rough laneway over the land to the shore. There are two very dependable wells and high-speed fibre-op internet.

Lockeport, a quaint seaside town, is within a 7 minute drive and features an amazing, long white sand beach. The Town of Shelburne is just 15 minutes away. It has all essential services including a hospital, grocery stores, car dealers, garden centre, cafes, pub, pharmacy, hardware, building suppliers, schools, live theatre, sailing club and of course, one of the nicest harbours and boardwalks in Eastern Canada.

So, if you are dreaming of owning a farm property with ocean frontage in beautiful Nova Scotia, complete with a world class circa 1826 home and multiple outbuildings, this is your opportunity.
